GRP Isn’t always the right solution.
A Grade II* listed structure, Victoria Bridge spans the River Avon connecting the Upper and Lower Bristol Roads, through the Bath Western Riverside development, making up part of the Bristol/Bath cycle network.
In 2010, the Bridge was closed to the public amid concerns about the Bridge’s condition and consequent strength and stability. The refurbishment works commenced in late winter 2014 and the newly refurbished bridge was officially reopened on 15 January 2015 and as a result of the work English Heritage have been able to remove Victoria Bridge from their Heritage at Risk Register.
Within a few months the GRP slip resistant application created its own trip hazard.
After a short successful trial MIFL applied one of its products, MIF Grip EM with 1-3mm black Dynagrip aggregate dressing with total 6mm system thickness, directly to the timber providing a joint slip resistant and wearing course in the spring 2015, and it continues to provide a slip resistant surface today.
